December 10th planetary conjunction...

Beitrag von rickw_IN »

At about 6:20 a.m. local time, near Chicago

Bild

Olympus E-500 camera
Lens: 40-150mmm at 150mm (35mm equivalent is 300mm)
F/5.6 at 1/15(?) second
ISO 400
Captured in raw format
Temperature: 30 degrees Fahrenheit
Location is a park with a baseball field; those tall structures are lights for playing night baseball.

In post processing I noticed Mercury was just a smudge of pixels and not easily viewable at 100% view. In Photoshop CS2 I selected Mercury and raised the highlight levels a bit to make it more visible for the final jpeg. Beta Scorpii(?) was supposed to be visible close to Mars, I believe; I saw it as a smudge of pixels to the upper left of Mars; Its pixels were even weaker than Mercury's. I chose not to enhance those pixels.

My signature below shows the latitude/longitude for the town in which the image was taken.

Correction: the EXIF data said the exposure was 1 second. My previous posting on this forum and at the below link both show the wrong exposure.

Also, the online site for "Sky and Tlescope" magazine published my picture.
